The original of this bracelet was found at Mostagedda, Egypt in a grave on the body of a woman, who wore one on each wrist. They were made of two pieces of wire, knotted in the center to produce a reef-knot and soldered at the ends into loops. Our version has unsoldered loop ends and wire wrappings on each side of the knot to hold it in place.
Original in the Cairo Museum - Egypt
The reef knot became one of the most popular amulets of the Middle Kingdom; because of its strength it was considered a protection amulet. Roman's called it a Hercules Knot. Sometimes it is called a Love Knot because it symbolizes a bond that gets stronger with adversity, friendship and love. It is essentially a square knot.
Cleaning Copper: This is uncoated copper so it will tarnish! Many people like the antiqued look and others want their copper to stay bright. To remove the oxidation simply put vinegar or lemon juice on it and allow to set a couple of minutes while the acid restores the shine. Rinse in water and then dry. Buff with a polishing cloth and it looks like a new lucky copper penny!
Copper is conductive so many people believe it helps the energy flow through the body relieving ailments like arthritis, rheumatism and any painful condition. Can be worn for general healing and to prevent sickness. To be most effective wear in on the left side of the body if right-handed and the reverse for left-handers.
History Notes: In ancient Mesopotamia, it was attributed to the Queen of Heaven as well as the goddesses associated with the planet Venus: Ishtar, Astarte and Inanna (their Sumerian predecessor). In Roman times, this included Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.
Also it was sacred to the Sun in Babylon as well as the Pacific Northwest (US). Its association with past solar attributes makes it a lucky metal to be used with good fortune gemstones.

ANCIENT ECHOES: This line of jewelry is designed at our facilities and inspired by extant pieces from lost civilizations found in private collections or museums around the world. These ancient symbols, also evident in carvings and paintings in tombs, temples and other archeological sites, enable us to create unique pieces that resonate with the energy and beauty of centuries past. Each piece is individually handcrafted to honor our ancestors and the sacred cultures they left behind.
EGYPTIANS: This collection begins with the ancient Egyptian Dynasties starting with the First Dynasty's Abydos Bracelets and ending with the reign of Cleopatra after Alexander the Great had conquered Egypt. We have added Victorian to the time period because there was an Egyptian Revival during the 19th century when tombs were discovered in Egypt.
