TENNER - A chaplet with ten beads, called a Tenner or in German, "Gebetskette Zehner" (prayer chain with 10 beads), was very popular in the 15th and 16th century. They usually had a saint's metal, cross, pomander or tassel hanging from the bottom. Often an eleventh larger bead was added as well.
POMANDER - In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, people loved strong scents, believing them to be wholesome and protection from infectious diseases. Ornate metal containers called pomanders were used to hold these spice and floral concoctions. They were worn around the neck, carried in the hand or attached to the belt. Many were used in rosaries and other jewelry.
