A handmade pewter Escallop shell pin on a felt bucket hat. This style of hat was very popular during the 1400's and often, those that went on pilgrimage worn their souvenirs on it to boast of their travels. The brim can be worn down all around, turned up in the front or turned up in back for a short brim Robin Hood hat. This fine quality pewter badges are made by Treasure Cast and held on with a metal backing.
Very versatile style! Leave it with just the Pilgrim's Scallop Shell pin or add badges, trim and feathers to liven it up even more.
Red is not as bright as picture shows!
History Note: Because Santiago a Compostello was the quintessential pilgrimage destination of the early Middle Ages, its souvenir - a scallop shell - became symbolic of pilgrimages in general as well as visitors to foreign lands and for sailors that sailed the foreign seas.
The under coif is SCA fencing legal and listed in the Rapier Section.
