Relic Connector on a Rose Quartz Chaplet Paternoster Rosary

This chaplet has 10mm faceted rose quartz ave beads (Hail Marys) and 12mm capped smooth rose quartz beads serving as the paternosters (Our Fathers). There are 5 of the larger beads dividing the smaller beads into 6 groups of 4 beads each. This configuration was very popular before the rosary became standardized in the 16th century. An empty tube pendant is included so that you can add your own "special relic" such as a scrap of fabric, lock of hair and/or a piece of paper with a name or saying on it. Or use this vial as a prayer holder for a person or event.
Our pendant, made of an acrylic tube, has metal detailed ends that remove easily so that the tube can be easily filled. A 2-inch, 21-gauge eyepin runs through the tube and has a finished loop on one end; one end of the tube is held in place by the loop, the other is held in place by a plastic stopper. Inside diameter of tube is 7mm.
The headpin needs to be "looped" and a jumpring attached it and the bead loop to close the circle. The jumpring is included and attached to the chaplet at the place the relic tube is to be inserted. See the picture of an onyx chaplet showing the relic tube joining the circle of beads.

HISTORY: These rosaries represent one of the first styles of circular rosaries. In actuality, these are chaplets since they consist of less than 50 beads; however, for ease of categorizing them we are including them with the rosaries. The number of beads were not consistant; however, many were arranged in sets of 4 beads with larger beads between the sets. There was usually a metal, relic, cross or pomander linking these sets and forming a circle.
An extant rosary of this style is of Spanish origin and made of faceted quartz with a connecting relic container containing splinters of the true cross and a piece of parchment which has the phase "Tree to Heaven" written in Latin. It can be found in Germany at the Dommusium zu Salzbury, along with numerous other rosaries in this style. (See last 2 pictures)
NOTE: We can make one that is hand strung with silk cord and knotted at the vial like the original. We chose the links for strength and for the modern mind that doesn't want knots showing! Just send us a convo if you want it closer to the original. We might even have clear crystal beads for paternosters! We can also put "Tree of Heaven" in Latin in the vial. Sorry, fresh out of pieces of the true cross!
